Success – How Bad Do You Want It?

Success – How Bad Do You Want It?

First of all, let’s define success. Success, I believe, does not depend on how much money you have or whether you have a big house, but I think success is setting goals and reaching them.

That is my definition of success.

Let me start with a couple of questions. I want you to finish this statement – “Thank God it’s…” Go ahead, finish it. I’m sure you said Friday. Let me ask you this.

Why did you not say Monday? Monday is the beginning of the work week. Monday is the beginning of a whole week of opportunities. Monday is the beginning of success.

Friday is the celebration of success.

I believe success is nothing more than a positive attitude. Success starts now. You can’t have success until you decide that you want to be successful.

You need to be at a place where at any moment you are able to sacrifice where you are for where you could be.

I want to ask you this question. What are you not good at? It might be writing. It might be speaking. It might be math. It might be management.

Well, I dare you to fail for a year at what you are not good at. You see, pain is temporary. It may last for a minute, a day, or a year, but if you quit it will last forever.

I dare you to take the pain, because at the end is where the success is.

You have to stop talking about success and you have to start being successful. Stop talking about it and start being about it.

You have to want success so bad that you are willing to do what it takes to have it.

I know how to lose weight. In fact, I need to lose weight and I know exactly how. You stay away from white things. You stay away from sugar. You eat proper amounts.

You don’t eat whatever you want. But the question is, why am I still not losing weight? See I know about it, but the fact of the matter is I don’t want to bad enough.

Until I really want to, until I want it more than chicken wings, more than pasta, more than sweet tea (I’m from Georgia). Until I want to lose weight more than I want to eat the wrong foods,

I will not be successful at losing weight.

It has to become a passion. It has to become something bigger than you. You gotta do what you gotta do until you get to do what you want to do. You have to want success more than sleep.

Let’s take a look at the difference between sleep versus rest. Sleep is for suckers. Rest is what successful people do. You can sleep whenever you want to.

You can decide how late to go to bed. You can decide how early to get up or how late to get up, but when you rest it is on purpose. Sleeping is for suckers.

Three things that will lead to success…

1.First of all, you have to show up. You have to show up every single day. You have to show up on purpose. Success is very intentional. I challenge you to find a successful person and ask them “Did it just happen?” They are going to tell you no, it was very intentional. Success is intentional. You have to intentionally show up every day on purpose.

2.You have to work. It is just not going to happen by itself. You have to work diligently. You have to work hard. Sometimes you have to work 3 days without sleeping in order to be successful.

3.You have to have a vision. Why am I doing this? What is the purpose of why I’m doing what I’m doing?

Show up, work, and have a vision.

I’m going to tell you this story I heard about a young man who wanted to be successful so he went to a guru. The guru said “So, you want to be successful?”

The young man said “Yes” and the guru said “Meet me at the beach at 4 a.m. tomorrow morning.”

Well, the young man did not really understand what was happening, but he knew this guru was successful so he went to the beach at 4 a.m. wearing a suit coat and tie.

wrong way-smThe guru said “So, you want to be successful?” The young man said “Yes” and the guru said “Okay, walk out into the water.”

The young man thought it was strange, but he walked out in the water to his knees and turned around. The guru said “Do you want to really be successful?” and the young man said “Yes.”

The guru told him to walk out further, so the young man walks out to his waist. The young man turns around and the guru says “Are you successful yet?” The young man says “No.”

The guru says “Go on, walk out a little bit further.” The guru started walking into the water and meeting the young man. The guru told the man to walk out even farther, all the way to his chin.

By this time the guru was close to him and the young man said “I’m still not successful.” The guru said “Go out a little bit further.” The young man went right up to his nose.

The guru pushed the young man underneath, held him down until he was almost ready to collapse and could not breathe, and then pulled the young man out and asked this question.

“What is the one thing that you wanted when you were under water?” The young man was breathing very heavily and said “I wanted to breathe!”

The guru simply said this, “Until you want success as much as you want to breathe, you won’t be successful.”

Les Brown says this, “Too many of us are not living our dreams because we are living our fears.”

I will say it again. When you want to success as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful.

Emmitt Smith said this, “All are created equal. Some work harder in preseason.”

“Thank God it’s Monday” or “Thank God it’s Friday.” It is all in your attitude. How bad do you want it?
